Airport Offical defends Suvarnabhumi Airport criticism

The President of the Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT), Chotisak Asapaviriya,
has disputed claims that the new
Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand may not be ready to begin operations in
September. According to the BangKok Post, Albert Tjoeng, International Air
Transport Association (IATA) spokesman in Singapore, has been cited
expressing scepticism that the $3.7-billion Airport would be ready for its
launch for 28, September, 2006. Tjoeng also suggested that the airport
although the airport conducted procedural test flights, the trials did not
test the airport's ability to handle heavy traffic.
Bangkok Post also reported Asapaviriya asserting that Tjoeng’s comments
are related to and have been inspired by the fierce competition in the
aviation business as many countries wanted to be the aviation hub.
Asapaviriya has also suggested that Tjoeng’s comments were not neutral as he
was once the senior executive of Singapore’s Changi International Airport. |
