The Conrad Bangkok is set to host the 2006 Bangkok International Film
Festival’s glittering Awards Gala Dinner, featuring a cavalcade of
international and local stars.
The hotel with a new attitude is a proud official sponsor of the
festival, which promises to be bigger, better and more glamorous than ever,
with a stellar array of celebrities jetting into the City of Angels - many
of whom will enjoy the Conrad’s legendary hospitality.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to get our name up in lights,’’ said the
Conrad Bangkok’s General Manager, Mr Gregory Meadows. “The festival is a
tremendous event, and we couldn’t be happier to be involved.
“When you look at the calibre of the films being shown and the stars who
are participating, it’s a great opportunity for Bangkok, and for the Conrad.
We are a hotel that prides itself on individuality, luxury, glamour and
excitement, so it’s a perfect fit.’’
The Conrad Bangkok is one of the city’s newest and most stylish hotels,
perfectly located to host various festival events and luminaries. It is
situated in the heart of the city’s “embassy row’’, Wireless Road, a mere
stone’s throw from participating cinemas and the city’s business and
commercial heart. It’s a hotel that oozes contemporary luxury; an urban
oasis for discerning travellers created by individuals, for individuals.
International stars confirmed to attend the festival, which runs from
February 17-27, include Vanessa Redgrave, Helen Mirren, Willem Dafoe and
Christopher Lee, among others.
Australian director Fred Schepisi will head up the festival’s
International Jury, along with fellow jury members Charles Dance (Gosford
Park, Swimming Pool), Julie Delphy (Broken Flowers, Before Sunset), Nancy
Kwan (The World of Suzie Wong), producer Donald Ranvaud (The Constant
Gardener) and Thai director Pantham Thongsang (I-Fak).
The hottest ticket in town will be the Gala Awards Dinner in the Conrad
Bangkok’s grand ballroom on Friday, February 24, where more than 500
celebrities and VIPs will witness the international jury award the coveted
Golden Kinnarree to Best Film, Director, Actress and Actor from the feature
films in competition.
As official sponsor, the Conrad Bangkok will also hold a cocktail party
for 400 guests for one of the film Premieres at the festival, and the
hotel’s 32nd floor, including its Presidential Suite, will play host to some
of the biggest global names in film.
According to Mr Meadows, the Conrad will also play host to a number of
important press conferences, seminars and workshops during the course of the
festival.
He added: “I’m particularly excited about the Award Gala Dinner. It will
be a great honour to have so many huge names in film under one roof, and
we’ll be pulling out all the stops to make this one of the most glamorous
and memorable events Bangkok has ever seen.’’
