Thailand’s newest recreational sensation, the enormous Chiang
Mai Night Safari is one of its kind in the world. It is today the pride of
Chiang Mai, a city of fascinating customs and traditions, cultures,
architectures and art.
Chiang
Mai is surrounded by beautiful mountains and unique environment that makes
the city one of the most popular places to visit in Thailand.
Chiang Mai Night Safari is like no night zoo you have ever seen. As evening
tourist attraction, it has more than 1,000 nocturnal animals and over 100
species living harmoniously and happily together.
In the total area (131 hectares) of Chiang Mai Night Safari, there are three
separate animal exhibitions, the Jaguar trail zone, Savanna safari zone and
the Predator zone. Each zone offers its own unique adventure experience.
As your enter Chiang Mai Night Safari’s elephantine compound you will be
struck by beautiful landscape and the feeling of being closer to nature.
And, at the same time be astonished as you pass through the great archway
and follow a broad and winding road that leads to a breathtaking circle of
sacred Himapana sculptures.
You then step into the "Lanna village," the design of which is a melting of
African and Lanna architectures. It’s a place where you can browse the
souvenir shop, local village handicraft shop, and photo corner. It also
features food courts and Fun Plaza, where you can play to all styles of
music, and even make song requests!
At the center of Lanna village, there is a sightseeing area where you can
sit next to the Swan Lake, and absorb the green mountain backdrop. This area
is surrounded by the Jaguar trail, a zoological park that you are able to
walk through by yourselves (over 1.2 kilometers long) in order to see over
400 animals from 50 different species in an environment of enchanting flower
gardens. Animals in this area include White Tigers, Jaguars, Copybaras,
Clouded Leopards, Fishing Catas, Brazilian Tapirs, Orangutans, Squirrel
Monkeys, Crowned Cranes and Miniature Horse.
Next to Jaguar Trail is the Savanna Safari Zone. This is the exhibit zone
for animals whose habitat is in African savanna. The zoo provides a tram in
order to fully connect with the natural atmosphere. One tram can seat 60
people. The distance for one trip is 2.43 km. Most animals in this zone live
free in the open environment. You can find here 320 hooved herbivores that
include: Serals, Gorals, Gaurs, White Rhinoceroses, Hyenas, Cheetahs,
Wildbeasts, Giraffes, Wild Yaks and Barasinghs. Along the way you will see a
replica of Wiang Kum Kam, the historic lost city of Chiang Mai.
Then you enter the Predator Prowl Zone where the carnivorous animals
numbering 200 are kept. Your journey among these wild beasts shall be filled
with excitement as you encounter face-to-face animals in this zone that
include Tigers, Lions, African Hunting Dogs, Asiatic Black Bears, Crocodiles
