VISA International, in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand
(TAT), announced the launch of the 'Thailand Visitor Card 2005' promotion
programme in a bid to increase their inbound tourism and tourist spending in
Thailand.
From April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006, the 'Thailand Visitor Card 2005'
entitles inbound tourists who are Visa debit and credit cardholders with
discounts of between five and 30 per cent at over 3,000 participating
leading merchant outlets and premises located in Bangkok as well as in major
tourist destinations around Thailand.
"The Tourism Authority of Thailand is pleased to have a committed partner
like Visa International to jointly promote Thailand as a major global
tourist destination and encourage inbound tourist spending," said Ms
Juthamas Siriwan, Governer of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
"The Thailand Visitor Card 2005 programme will help reinforce Thailand's
position as a shopping paradise of Asia and promote an increase in foreign
currency circulation within the country."
Visa International's Country Manager for Thailand, Mr Somboon
Krobteeranoon meanwhile said, "The promotion programme is a part of Visa's
three year exclusive partnership with the Tourism Authority of Thailand,
which was formed last year in an effort to boost inbound tourism and
tourists spending."
The Thailand Visitor Card 2005 is now available free for overseas
tourists at over 40 TAT's international and domestic offices and also at
Bangkok
International Airport. To enjoy the discounts, privileges offered by the
card, Visa Cardholders travelling in Thailand can present the Thailand
Visitor Card along with their Visa card when making purchases. The promotion
will run until March 31, 2006.
Participating merchants for the programme include department stores,
restaurants, hotels, golf courses, hospitals located in
Bangkok
and in major tourist destinations including
Chiang Mai,
Phuket,
Pattaya,
Hua
Hin,
Cha-am,
Ko
Samui and
Hat Yai.
