The Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection
and the largest hotel within Laguna Phuket, has once again been ranked
amongst the top 5 resort hotel’s in Asia-Pacific; this time achieving a
lofty #2 ranking. The 2005 ranking, based on a poll of readers of
Business Traveller Asia-Pacific
magazine, marks the fifth successive year that the hotel has been chosen
amongst the very best on the continent.
General
Manager of the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, Andrew Jessop, was thrilled
with the hotel’s achievement: “It truly is fantastic for a number of
reasons. For one, the top two hotels in Asia-Pacific are within a stone’s
throw of each other and under the same Laguna Phuket ownership. And the
fact that both are in Phuket is a testament to the resilience of the
destination and the speedy recovery it has made since the events of December
2004.”
While
thanking readers of Business Traveller
Asia-Pacific, Mr. Jessop was quick to point out that their next
visit is likely to be a bit of a surprise. “Over the past year,
approximately US$10 million has been invested in improvements around the
resort. Over 90% of the resort’s total room inventory is either
newly-renovated or brand new and enhancements have also been made to
restaurants and public areas.”
Late in
2004, the resort launched its exclusive three- to four-bedroom Golf Pool
Villas & Residences each with its own private pool, early in 2005
one-bedroom Lagoon Villas underwent a complete makeover with the remainder
of the year being focused on refurbishments to the resort’s standard room
types. And, in early 2006, the resort is preparing to unveil 45 brand new
Grande rooms, bringing the hotel’s inventory of luxury rooms and villas to
400.
